Rockwell sue JDS Uniphase over chip patent

17 Jun 2002

JDS Uniphase is the latest company to be sued by Rockwell Technologies LLC, for alleged infringement of a semiconductor-manufacturing patent.

Rockwell has already made a claim against laser manufacturer Spectra-Physics over the same issue - a 1983 patent entitled "Epitaxial composite and a method of making".

The Thousand Oaks, California-based company claims that JDS used Rockwell's metal organic chemical vapour deposition process to make semiconductor wafers, and is said to be seeking a jury trial on its claims for damages.
