Industry and universities target field emission displays

17 Jun 2002

A European initiative to pool academic and industrial expertise in field emission displays is about to be announced. The stated aim of the BigFED project is to ensure that Europe is not left behind in any future field emission technology that is likely to achieve commercial success. Specifically the program aims to develop a 1m2 field emission display (FED).

FED technology is one of the most promising candidates for future flat screen displays for hang-on-the-wall televisions and active advertising. Its key attraction is its ability to deliver high quality images (in terms of brightness, color and viewing angle) with low power consumption.
