Optoelectronics manufacturers can buy epitaxy reactors from one company and back up fabrication services from a second company guaranteed to be equipped with the same type of reactors.
The integrated service is the result of an alliance between Aixtron of Aachen, Germany, and Epitaxial Products International (EPI) of Cardiff, Wales.
Aixtron makes metal-organic vapour phase (MOVPE) reactors, which account for a rapidly increasing share of optoelectronics manufacture. EPI is a leading MOVPE wafer foundry and it is equipped with the German reactors.
The alliance means that any company buying an Aixtron reactor is guaranteed a second source of wafers manufactured with the same model of reactor. JB
