BNeD GmbH and Virtual Photonics Pty Ltd, developers of photonic design automation tools, today announced the formation of Virtual Photonics Incorporated (VPI), the new, global corporation which arises from their merger in late December 1998.
CEO Kay Iversen said VPI combined the complementary strengths of the founding entities to deliver a highly sophisticated and multi skilled development team with expertise in photonics and simulation techniques for optical components, subsystems, and networks.Iversen said the formation of VPI will strengthen and expand efforts to serve a rapidly growing market.
A shareholder in the new entity is Australian Photonics Pty Ltd, the commercial arm of the Australian Photonics Cooperative Research Centre. Executive Director of Australian Photonics and Chief Executive of the Australian Photonics Cooperative Research Centre, Professor Mark Sceats, said the formation of VPI brought immediate benefits for Australian industry development.
"The merger means VPI will package and market its software tools using our photonics expertise at design centres across the Asian region", Sceats explained. "We're very pleased to see more industry development oppportunities for our brightest young engineers and important marketing channels for Australian consulting services as a result of the merger".
