Siemens Semiconductors, Osram Form Joint Venture for Optoelectronic Semiconductors

The semiconductor group of Siemens AG (Berlin, Germany) and Osram GmbH (Munich, Germany) have formed a joint venture for optoelectronic semiconductors. The joint venture, operating under the name Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH & Co., began operation Jan. 1 and includes workforce of 2,300. The two partners hope to pool their resources to open up new market systems for semiconductor light sources, including light-emitting diode applications.
