Spire Corporation (Bedford, Massachusetts) has received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to design and build compact pixellated cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe) imaging arrays with high energy and spatial resolution for nuclear medical imaging. The detectors would be used for breast and brain imaging in nuclear medicine with additional uses possible for X-ray astronomy, airport baggage scanners, nuclar verification systems, non-destructive industrial imaging, and environmental monitoring.
