TRW delivers solid-state laser for Cummins Engine to evaluate drilling and machining

TRW, Inc., has delivered a 500-watt Nd:YAG diode-pumped solid-state laser (DPSSL) to Cummins Engine Company, Inc., for use in evaluating drilling and machining applications. The DP-11 industrial laser consists of a laser head and power control unit and incorporates a touch screen controller that can be interfaced to a machine tool control system. Cummins will compare the benefits of DPSSL drilling with those of the electrical discharge machining process and standard machine tools.
