Laser diffusers get FDA approval

The Food and Drug Administration granted 510(k) approvals to Rare Earth Medical, Inc., for two laser diffusers which use medical laser energy to heat and destroydiseased tissue. The Lightstic 180 fiber optic diffuser has been approved for urologic procedures and the Lightstic 360 has been approved for general surgical use.The diffusers direct the light laterally in a cylindrical pattern over the diffusion region, allowing doctors to heat and destroy diseased cells in a less invasive and lessexpensive procedure.
