Robert Duester takes Newport helm

Robert Deuster has been named president and CEO of Newport Corporation (Irvine, CA). He replaces Richard Schmidt, who is retiring from the positions as part of a planned management succession. Schmidt will remain as chairman of Newport's board of directors.

Deuster has been a senior executive for the past ten years with Applied Power (Milwaukee, WI). There he most recently served as senior vice president of the Distributed Products Group, overseeing global operations. Earlier at Applied Power he was president of the Barry Controls Division, now part of Newport. Schmidt notes Deuster's experience will be of benefit as "Newport expands from its traditional science and laboratory base into commercial markets."
