TI sues Samsung

17 Jun 2002

Texas Instruments announced Tuesday it is suing Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and two of the Korean company's U.S. subsidiaries for allegedly infringing several of the company's patents on semiconductor manufacturing. TI also said it plans to file a complaint with the International Trade Commission asking it to prevent Samsung from importing allegedly infringing semiconductors. The suit, filed in federal District Court for the eastern district of Texas, charges Samsung with violating several TI patents including the manufacture of dynamic random-access memories.

TI said most of its existing semiconductor patent-license agreements have just expired or will expire in early 1996. Royalties from agreements that expired at the end of 1995 are valued at $108 million for the fourth quarter. These are mainly from Samsung, the company said.
