Picosecond pulses (FWHM ~2 ps, repetition rate = 76 MHz) from an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) operating at a fixed central wavelength of 2180 nm are fibre coupled as the FWM pump. A cw tunable mid-infrared laser is used as the signal. The pump and signal are multiplexed with a 90/10 coupler. Coupling into/out of a 4 mm long SOI photonic wire is accomplished using lensed fibres. Polarization controllers are used to align the pump and signal to the quasi-TM mode of the photonic wire. The wire output is characterized with a mid-infrared optical spectrum analyser at 1 nm resolution bandwidth. |
