The mobile lidar system is a small scanning lidar that uses elastic backscattering to obtain the relative distribution and properties of smoke particulates and the amount of atmospheric attenuation. The lidar operates at 355 and 1064 nm simultaneously and allows the US Forest Service to conduct research related to smoke plume dynamics, propagation and properties. (Credit: US Forest Service)
