ARC maps are instant snap-shots of the angles at which the light comes out from the sample. The lower spot disappears as the upper one appears as a function of the timing of the maps, reproducing a known energy transfer between two separated parts of the molecule (so called B800 and B850). The maps go further however, with the shifts of a feature position directly allowing the researchers to distinguish a strong coupling between electrons from an electron coupling with the motion of surrounding atoms.
