The upper plot illustrates how propagating waves are focused and the lower plot shows how evanescent waves are restored; (b) a "poor-man's" superlens; and (c) a hyperlens where the blue line represents a propagating wave and the red line shows an evanescent wave that is being converted to a propagating wave by a hyperlens. Superlensing is sensitive to losses in the NIM slab.
