Inside Intel
The hybrid laser, first revealed in September 2006, consists of both InP and silicon wafers, bonded together in a plasma process. The InP wafer produces light emission, while silicon acts as a waveguide that reflects and amplifies the light, producing the laser emission. Credit: UCSB.
