Why Do We Say Meadowlark Makes the Best Waveplates?

14 Jun 2024

Meadowlark Optics has over 40 years of retarder (waveplate) manufacturing expertise and the ability to manufacture from a wide variety of materials to facilitate high or low power applications. Some materials allow retarders to be used over different wavelengths from the ultraviolet through the visible and into the near infrared. Meadowlark Optics uses proprietary methods to ensure the best spatial uniformity of its polymer and crystalline retarders. We provide a larger variety of waveplate types than any other company. See our capabilities below, and review specs at meadowlark.com.

Here are some of Meadowlark’s standout offerings:

  • Linear, circular, and elliptical retarders
  • Linear retarder catalog products
  • True zero order retarders using birefringent polymers
  • Compound zero order retarders using birefringent crystals
  • Wide angular field of view retarders using polymers
  • Achromatic retarders using polymers
  • Superachromatic retarders using polymers
  • Custom design and manufacturing capabilities for athermal crystalline retarders, wide angular field of view crystalline retarders, achromatic linear retarders using two or three different crystals combined, achromatic circular retarders using polymers, and elliptical retarders
  • The largest known crystal waveplates out of quartz to 135 mm diameter and magnesium fluoride to 120 mm diameter
  • Clocking accuracy on compound zero order retarders to better than 0.05° with the metrology to confirm accuracy achieved.
  • Linear retardance metrology accuracy of approximately±0.005 waves from 400 nm to 1000nm wavelength and approximately ±0.002 waves between 240 nm to 400 nm and between 1 micron to 5 microns wavelength
  • Optically-contacted crystal quartz and crystal magnesium fluoride crystal waveplates in diameters up to 120 mm
  • Individual waveplate retardance measurements with each standard waveplate shipped at the customers wavelength of interest
