Fibre Coupled Acousto-Optic Modulators | |
14 May 2024 Acousto-optic modulators (AOMs) are a key optical component with multiple uses depending on the application. LASER COMPONENTS is able to offer AOMs with the addition of fibre coupling to allow easy integration into fibre-based systems with FCAOMs. The AOM functions through the acousto-optic effect where an RF signal is applied to the optical transmission crystal through a transducer to create an acoustic wave. This wave results in a refractive index change of the material and in turn a Bragg diffraction angle change in the light’s direction. The pigtailing of these devices allows for simple integration for fibre systems with either connectors or direct splicing into the network. This light collimation to transition the light in and out of fibre is key to allow the high transmission through the component and efficient Bragg diffraction. The FCAOMS are available in both SM and PM fibres and customisation on pigtail lengths and termination options. The wavelengths cover a large range of the fibre optics regions to meet the system requirements. Associated RF drivers are available to compliment the FCAOM component for simple implementation.
