Multi-pass Gas Cell Mirrors from Spectral Systems

14 Apr 2023

One key application of FTIR is the monitoring of environmental emissions in a multi-pass gas cell mirror system. This type of system consists of three mirrors that allow the infrared light to make hundreds of passes through the gas.  The mirrors need to stand up to the corrosiveness of the gases being passed through the cell. This accessory for an FTIR utilizes metal mirrors manufactured out of either stainless steel or protected aluminum substrates. Spectral Systems’ curved optic division in Jaffrey, NH has the capability to diamond-turn aluminum mirrors to a surface finish of well under 20 Å RMS. Spectral polishes their stainless steel mirrors to a surface irregularity of 1/4 wave and scratch dig of 60/40. The Aluminum mirrors are then coated at our Hopewell Junction, NY site with evaporated gold or other protected coatings. Our quality team ensures all products are held to a high standard in order to deliver peak performance for our customers.
