Beam shapers and homogenisers are used for creating a well-defined spot shape, with a uniform intensity profile and are widely used in materials processing and scanning applications. As well as beam shaping, diffractive technology is used for beam splitting. Using a DOE for beam splitting is advantageous when one element is required to produce several beams or when exact fractions of the input power are required in individual beams. Precise positioning can also be achieved, for example, to create holes at clearly defined and accurate distances.
