Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers in fluorescence microscopy. Dichroic Longpass Filters are designed to transmit wavelengths longer than the filter’s ‘cut-on’ and to block bands below that point. Our Dichroic Longpass Filters are typically made for bands between 300-1200nm, and are usually specced for a 0° AOI. Use at a 45° results in a CWL shift of around 35-50nm. In fluorescence microscopy, incident light is reflected by the dichroic filter into the objective, and the fluorescence (which has a longer wavelength than the excitation wavelength) is transmitted through the dichroic mirror into the camera.
These can also be used as beam combiners in a similar manner as a beamsplitter, and when used in conjunction with a shortpass filter, can make a bandpass filter.
