Better Defect Detection When Working with CO2 Lasers

16 Aug 2022

10.6 µm Notch Filter Prevents Over-radiation in Process Monitoring

Infrared notch filters at 10.6 µm enable reliable monitoring via thermal imaging cameras when working with CO2 lasers. They block the laser wavelength with an optical density of 6 and a bandwidth of approximately 2 μm. This prevents the camera image from being saturated by the intense laser light.

The rest of the thermal image is only reduced by about 15% across a transmission range of 8-13 μm. The filters are available immediately from LASER COMPONENTS on germanium at a standard size of 1 inch.

CO2 lasers are used in industry for welding, cutting, and forming work, among other applications. Process monitoring can detect defects such as weld spatter or hairline cracks at an early stage.
