Knight Optical’s Custom-Made Cube Beamsplitters for the Scientific Sector

21 Jun 2021

As a regular and trusted supplier to the scientific sector, Knight Optical – the industry-leading supplier of on-spec, metrology-tested optical components – has been a partner to many leading names working on the most significant innovations of our time. And, our premium-quality Cube Beamsplitters are just one of the components within our wide-ranging portfolio that are popular amongst specifiers. Such applications include interferometry; for example, where beamsplitters are used to separate light into two beams to compare a reference against a sample. Other applications that also make use of Cube Beamsplitters include laser-based systems, auto correlators – plus, they are sometimes used in the entertainment and commercial industries.

Cube Beamsplitters differ to Plate Beamsplitters and offer some advantages in comparison. Not only do they prevent ghost images, but they are also easier to mount. What's more, they have long been used in the experimentation of quantum theory and relativity theory and can be used in the creation of quantum computers.

At Knight Optical, we understand the importance of ultra-precision and the need for tailor-made solutions. It's for this reason that we offer all our Cube Beamsplitters as Custom-Made Optics for seamless integration with any device, regardless of size or requirements. This made-to-measure service allows you to specify the dimensions, substrates, tolerances and optical coatings – if required – that are best suited to your application. What's more, our Cube Beamsplitters can be manufactured with different transmission and reflection ratios (e.g. 50/50, 40/60, 33/67 etc.), and are available in polarising and non-polarising depending on your needs.

Typical specs:

Material: N-BK7 (or equivalent), UV Fused Silica

Wavelength ranges: Visible (400-700nm), NIR (630-1100nm), Telecom (1050-1700nm)

Dimensional tolerances: +/- 0.3mm

Parallelism: < 3 arcminutes

Surface quality:

<40-20 Scratch/Dig

<2 λ per 25mm PV@ 633nm

Coatings: Anti-reflective (AR) coatings for application bandwidth on external surfaces and splitter coatings for application bandwidth on internal surfaces
