Award-Winning Test System Measures Near-IR LEDs and Lasers for Sensing Applications | |
19 Mar 2021 The Near-Infrared (NIR) Intensity Lens from Radiant Vision Systems has received several innovation awards for its ability to simplify and expedite light source measurement for sensing applications from facial ID to gesture recognition to eye tracking to lidar. The solution is an integrated camera/lens that captures direct angular distributions of near-IR LEDs and lasers to evaluate radiant intensity, scope, shape, pattern, and uniformity, thus ensuring the performance and safety of sensing systems. The NIR Intensity Lens utilizes Fourier optics to capture an angular distribution of light to ±70 degrees in a single measurement without moving parts, giving manufacturers extremely fast and accurate results during in-line quality control. The NIR Intensity Lens solution is powered by a unique software test suite (TT-NIRI™) developed by Radiant for measuring qualities of near-IR LED and vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) sources. Manufacturers of sensing systems can apply this test suite to measure near-IR beams as well as structured light patterns containing tens of thousands of dots. Evaluate radiant intensity, flux, power, flood source uniformity, intensity hot spots, intensity falloff, dot patterns, dot positions, and other measurements based on angular coordinates across the distribution area. The system can be integrated into production lines using factory communications for fully automated testing, as well as used in the lab for light source characterization.
