04 Feb 2021 Special launch condition sources and optical powermeters are needed for the measurement of MM optical fibres. The need for matching powermeters and light sources with stringent launch conditions for larger core MM fibres is necessary for accurate and repeatable measurements for avionics and defence industries as well as research laboratories. TEMPO’s LED light sources are available at 850nm & 1300nm that have been manufactured with specific launch conditions to overcome the inconsistent measurements caused by standard light sources, they have specific launch conditions for greater measurement accuracy and repeatability. They have optimised launch to support Equilibrium Modal Distribution (EMD), the M series have specific launch conditions optimised for full-fill condition with the 577XL-AS100 (850nm) at 100/140um NA 0.29 and 577XL-M90 (850nm) at 62,5/125um NA 0.275. At the receiving end compatible test equipment is the large area silicon detector based powermeter 567XL calibrated for 650nm, 780nm and 850nm combined with LED source designed for large core MM fibre 577XL M90 or 577XL AS100, making the ideal loss measurement set ideal for short and long cable lengths. Loss set combinations have both continuous wave and modulation measurement capability (270Hz, 1kHz and 2kHz) for test signal identification and stray light elimination. Options include Universal Connector Interface (UCI) adaptors to suit all commonly used connectors used with large core MM fibre. In addition there is a 1300nm LED source with M90 launch condition designed for 62,5/125um fibre 578XL M90 and 850/1300nm LED source configured to meet AS100 launch conditions 570XL-AS100-EM1.
