Ocean Insight Launches High-sensitivity NIR Spectrometer

03 Sep 2020

New NIRQuest+ spectrometers detect weaker levels of NIR light

Orlando, Florida, USA (August 2020) – Ocean Insight, the applied spectral knowledge company, announces the new NIRQuest+ family of NIR spectrometers. NIRQuest+ spectrometers have an enhanced optical bench design for high-sensitivity performance, allowing for low limits of detection at NIR wavelengths from 900-2500. Three versions (900-1700 nm, 900-2200 nm and 900-2500 nm) are available.

NIRQuest+ has great thermal stability and can be used in the lab or on the line, such as on a conveyor belt or in a sample stream, as its higher sensitivity allows users to capture the necessary spectra over shorter integration times. Typical applications include detection of moisture content in fruits and grains; identification of plastics for recycling and materials for industry; and monitoring of ingredients in pharmaceutical processes.

NIRQuest+ also can measure very small changes in absorbed signal, which are typical of harmonic overtones in the NIR. Its higher sensitivity enables better measurement accuracy, particularly in low light conditions. Also, at longer wavelengths, NIRQuest+ measures diffuse reflection at low noise levels, resulting in cleaner spectra at wavelengths where distinct spectral features can be difficult to capture.

For modular NIR solutions for customer integration projects, Ocean Insight offers several capabilities: in-house feasibility and verification testing via Ocean Lab Services; skilled engineering support for OEM level optimization of spectrometer optics and accessories; and machine learning algorithm development for advanced data identification and quantification.
