Thin Film Polarizers for Laser Applications

EKSMA Optics offers a wide range of  thin film polarizers designed for operation with high power lasers. Polarizers are used to separate s- and p- polarized components of particular wavelength or wavelength range.

Our standard thin film polarizers are deposited on precision UV fused silica or N-BK7 glass substrates and feature high laser damage thresholds. The wavelength range of standard EKSMA Optics thin film polarizers offered ex-stock is from 266 nm to 1064 nm.

We have designed different versions of thin film polarizers for optimal performance in different laser applications:

  • Standard - Rs/Tp:>99.5/95.0%, extinction ratio Tp/Ts >200:1
  • High Transmission (HT) - Rs/Tp:>99.5/99.0%, extinction ratio Tp/Ts >200:1
  • Ultra High Transmission (UHT) - Ts<0.2%, Rp<0.2%, extinction ratio Tp/Ts >500:1
  • High Extinction Ratio (HE) - Tp>98%, Ts<0.1%, extinction ratio Tp/Ts >1000:1

EKSMA Optics manufactures polarizers for different angles of incidence:

Thin Film Polarizers, AOI=45°
S-polarized beam is reflected at 90°. Back side antireflection coated.

- Thin Film Polarizers, AOI=56°
Highest extinction ratio can be achieved when polarizer operates at Brewster angle. The uncoated back side has minimal reflection for p-polarized beam.

- Broadband Thin Film Polarizers, AOI=70°
Designed to be used in high energy laser systems, typically as extracavity attenuators for broadband lasers.
