19 Oct 2017 Andritz Powerlase Ltd. will debut the new fiber laser based variant of the Vulcan family of laser-based cleaning and surface preparation systems at Parts2Clean, from October 24 – 26, in Stuttgart, Germany.
The introduction of the Vulcan i500c followed the debut of the most powerful laser cleaning system in the world, the Vulcan i1600e, with class-leading peak power and globally proven industrial reliability in a compact, portable laser cleaning solution. The Vulcan i500c was developed to perform in specialty applications where the flexibility and reliability of fiber lasers excel, while providing value in industrial applications using the patent pending Hybrid Ablation Process. The new Vulcan platform has been expressly designed to fully address the requirements for a fast surface removal (ablation) processes at power levels below 500W, while still offering high peak power suitable for coating and paint removal, mold cleaning, surface pre-treatment, and restoration. The Powerlase Vulcan i500c also introduces the first adjustable angle scan head available in North America, coupled with an extended range delivery fiber up to 100m length.
“The development of the Vulcan i500c system was driven by a desire to satisfy customers asking for a complete laser cleaning solution with more flexibility, and portability” said Dr. Young Kwon, Managing Director. “By integrating our new pulsed fiber laser technology into a portable platform, the Vulcan i500c delivers class leading pulse energy and peak power for higher processing speeds than available on the market today. With the introduction of the Vulcan i500c our customers will have yet another innovative laser cleaning solution in a compact package. We listened to what our customers said they needed in a portable laser cleaning system and believe the Vulcan i500c delivers.”
The integration of our new pulsed fiber lasers provides the Vulcan platform with expanded pulse parameter flexibility, condition monitoring, beam stability and fiber delivery for a broad range of industrial applications. The Vulcan platform also includes a high-speed, compact, portable, fiber-coupled scan head that offers manual and optional robotic control, making the integrated platform control unit process parameters much easier for the user.
The Vulcan platform is currently available in the IR, but Powerlase will also offer green and UV-based systems that are capable of processing specialty and composite materials much more efficiently than infrared. A much wider range of industrial sectors need flexible high-speed surface preparation, such as aerospace and automotive, but so do precision industries such as architectural conservation., All sectors can thus expect significantly reduced processing times and greater overall efficiency – both factors that can serve to make a laser-based application approach considerably more attractive.
