Up to 20 times faster image processing with FPGA

02 Aug 2017

At the first Embedded VISION Europe Conference and Exhibition, Vision Components will shine a light on the future of image processing.

Having built up extensive knowledge on FPGA programming, the company has achieved up to 20 times faster performance in various successfully concluded customer projects.

These results are enabled by the versatile system on chip (SoC) architecture in VC Z series embedded vision systems: the cameras feature a Xilinx Zynq SoC that comprises an 866 MHz dual-core ARM processor and an FPGA, which can carry out image processing tasks in parallel. Using Xilinx’ Vivado HLS tool, Vision Components programs the integrated circuit in C and C++, and can furthermore draw on its own extensive software library. Software-based FPGA programming has huge advantages.

Users can test all programmed functions in advance in a simulation environment and debug the script, if necessary. This greatly simplifies troubleshooting and significantly reduces development time. FPGA programming therefore promises to become much more accessible to machine vision developers in future. Vision Components offers support and – in regular workshops – professional training to those who want to explore the potential of FPGA programming.
