08 May 2017 LASER COMPONENTS offers unique pulsable infrared emitters from our EP range,
fitted with a tungsten filament providing mid IR radiation to over 5 microns. The
device comes in a standard TO8 package and has an expected lifetime of three
years which is ideal for fit and forget applications such as gas sensing. The tungsten
filament achieves the highest temperature and power of any material and is therefore
a cost-effective source of near infra-red radiation.
Glass and quartz glass envelopes are most commonly used in incandescent light
bulbs but do not transmit well in the infra-red, sapphire is a much better choice. The
EP emitter has a patented design that integrates a sapphire window with a tungsten
filament in a sealed metallic package, providing a robust source for spectroscopic
instruments.
Tungsten filaments are provided in a variety of sizes to accommodate various
frequency and modulation requirements. Operating temperatures up to 1900K are
standard with the EP source, all the devices include a gold plated parabolic reflector
and an inert gas backfill.
