Reference Transmitters with Variable Extinction Ratio

The Photline ModBox-850nm-NRZ and ModBox-OBand-NRZ series is a family of Reference Transmitters that generate excellent quality NRZ optical data streams up to 28Gb/s, 44Gb/s, and 50Gb/s at 850nm and in the O-band.  These transmitters produce very clean eye diagrams with high SNR and short rise and fall times.  They now available with the option of adjusting the extinction ratio for vertical eye closure (VER option).

The Photline ModBox is particularly suitable for optical telecommunications laboratories and production test beds as it provides R&D and production engineers with a user friendly turn-key instrument delivering state of the art performance.  The equipment incorporates a modulation stage based on a chirp-free LiNb03 Mach-Zehnder modulator, coupled with a high performance RF driver and an automatic bias control circuitry.  It also integrates a DFB laser source.

The new variable extinction ratio (VER) option provides the flexibility of adjusting the extinction ratio (ER) for vertical eye closure.  This unique feature allows users to set the ER between 3dB to 12dB for vertical eye closure, either manually or via computer interface.  VER value can be adjusted within the 9dB range or chosen from standard and pre-set values: 3, 6, 9 or 12dB.

In addition to 850nm and the O-band, iXblue offers ModBox reference transmitters in the C-band, and 1 µm region.
