Dual-color femtosecond fiber laser

07 Jul 2016

TOPTICA’s FemtoFiber dichro bioMP is the ultimate laser source for nonlinear microscopy. It provides two synchronized laser pulses at 780 and 1050 nm, with below 150 fs pulse duration and more than 1.5 W output power.

The laser enables a completely new approach for nonlinear microscopy via 2-color 2-photon excitation. When both beams are temporally and spatially overlapped at the focus spot inside the sample, an excitation at a third virtual wavelength can be stimulated, corresponding to an excitation at 900 nm. This combination of the three wavelengths allows for exciting most conventional fluorescent markers and proteins used for two-photon excitation fluorescence (TPEF) microscopy including GFP. Furthermore both beams emerging from the laser can be modulated independently in intensity, pulse duration (chirp) and respective inter-pulse delay. Therefore the laser system is ideally suited for live-cell multicolor 2-photon imaging and broadband CARS and SRS studies, as well as pump-probe experiments.

In addition, pulsed STED microscopy is enabled by the high output power of the FemtoFiber dichro bioMP.
