Life science imaging has inherently low light levels which are further reduced by difficult microscopy techniques leveraging confocal techniques, single molecule excitation or high magnification. Higher excitation intensity or acquiring data with longer exposures to increase detected light only accelerates cellular phototoxicity and leads to undesired cellular over-expression.
