21 Apr 2016 With a bandwidth of 2.5 Gbyte/s (over four cables), the new CoaXPress standard enables vision inspection applications requiring unprecedented resolution or frame rate. The fastest versions of the PCIe bus (Gen 2 and Gen 3 revisions) are able to sustain such data rates.
Therefore, for many applications requiring heavy image processing and analysis, the bottleneck has now moved towards the host CPU and a single PC, even high-end or multi-CPU, may not be powerful enough to keep up with these data rates.
The new Coaxlink Quad G3 DF from Euresys is the solution.
The Coaxlink Quad G3 DF is a CoaXPress frame grabber with four CXP-6 inputs and four CXP-6 Data Forwarding outputs. It allows sharing the data (images) coming from a single camera with up to 10 host computers, which are simply connected in a daisy chain. All PCs in the chain receive all images from the camera at the same time, without any latency.
In addition, the Coaxlink cards communicate through the CoaXPress links to synchronize the data transfer among the PCs. This is particularly useful for web inspection applications using line-scan cameras, each PC knows when the scan starts and ends and distinct segments of the image can be allocated to each PC for processing.
The system is simple, reliable, efficient and cost effective as no additional switch, hub or repeater is required.
The ability of the Coaxlink Quad G3 DF to distribute the processing workload among several PCs makes it ideal for demanding applications requiring heavy image analysis.
