Cronus series: Spectrometer and Colorimeter in one

03 Jun 2015

Combining high speed measurement with extreme accuracy

The Cronus is world’s first spectro-colorimeter combining a VIS spectrometer with a tri-stimulus colorimeter. This unique combination allows the user to choose between detailed spectral information of the spectrometer and high speed colour, light and flicker measurements of the colorimeter. Measurements of xy, colour rendering index (CRI), correlated colour temperature (CCT), luminance, spectrum and flicked make the Cronus well suited for both lighting and display measurement applications where speed and accuracy is required. Its spectral range reaches from 380 to 780nm.

Its compact and robust housing combined with excellent linearity, dark current compensation, autorange function and mechanical shutter make the Cronus perfectly suited for integration in production lines. All calculations are executed in the device, offering data which is directly usable for production environments, saving external calculation power of production lines. USB, Ethernet and RS232 ports provide all necessary ways to transfer high speed data from the device. Additionally trigger in and trigger out ports allow precise timing of your measurements when integrated in production. When teamed up with Admesy’s Iliad software application, the Cronus offers user friendly operation for R&D environments.

The Cronus is available in numerous optical configurations, including fiber and fixed optics (lens and cosine corrector) depending on your specific measurement needs. The fiber configuration allows connecting to one of many Admesy accessories which include remote sensing, reflective probes or integrating spheres. Lens systems are typically used for display applications and are ideal for XYZ measurements, white point adjustment and flicker measurements of displays including JEITA and VESA methods. Besides, luminance measurements can be carried out using the lens optic system.

The Cronus with cosine corrector is most suited for lighting applications which include LED and SSL (solid state lighting) products. Next to colour measurements, complete spectral response of light sources can be determined. Additionally, flicker and illuminance measurements can be carried out with a single device. The build-in colorimeter and large internal memory of the Cronus allows for high speed measurements over a long period of time. This enables the user to check flicker effects over time and during fade of the light source. Adjusting the driver during development and checking the flicker effect of each light source during production leads to increased performance and end-user satisfaction and health.

Alike all Admesy products, the Cronus is developed with an industrial use in mind combining ease of use, minimal calibration needs, high-speed measurement capabilities with a compact and robust design. The Cronus offers laboratory results with a workforce attitude.
