High energy, few cycle amplifier from Laser Quantum

At Photonics West, Laser Quantum announced the first commercially available amplifier to offer high pulse energy while maintaining ultra-short pulse durations below 8fs. The venteon OPCPA is a fully specified amplifier that offers > 5uJ pulse energy.

The scientific research environment demands more and more from the tools it uses, so manufacturers need to offer greater capabilities, new technologies and improvements to existing products to enable scientific advantages. 

In the laser and photonics industry, high intensity, ultra-short pulses are offering increased possibilities in research fields such as fundamental physics. For instance, attosecond pulse generation and high harmonics require the high peak energies that are only available through high amplification and compressed pulses. Traditional amplification methods, while offering high energies, are unable to maintain the short pulses of the seed laser. One technique of growing interest that has the ability to both increase power while preserving short pulse durations is optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA). This technique uses a non-linear process to amplify a low power few-cycle pulse using an ultra broad spectral bandwidth signal beam and a high power narrow bandwidth seed beam. 

Laser Quantum is the first company to offer this technique as a standard product, including full warranty performance specifications. Built around the venteon dual femtosecond oscillator and powered by a finesse pure pump laser, the venteon OPCPA is a fully configured amplified laser that offers guaranteed 5uJ pulse energies with finesse pure CEP, featuring CEPLoQ™ technology that improves on the traditional AOM method in both depth and speed of response.
