18 Jun 2014 At SPIE Defense, Security and Sensing exhibition in Baltimore May 6th to 8th, Umicore Infrared Optics added two new lenses to its portfolio. These intelligent designs combine high resolution with superior thermal stability and light weight, while remaining very competitively priced.
The launch of our 35 mm f/1.1 and 75 mm f/1.1 Long Wave InfraRed (LWIR) lenses garnered a lot of interest and positive comments at the exhibition. Especially the physical dimensions of the new 35 mm, at half the size (length just 1 inch!) and a quarter the weight of our traditional 35 mm design evoked a lot of positive response!
This 35 mm thermal imaging lens is compatible with 12 µm and 17 µm VGA and 25 µm QVGA detectors or smaller. It features a thermal performance range from -40 °C to +80 °C and has a fast f-number of f/1.1, and a focus range from 5 m to infinity. Distortion is minimal at less than 3%.
Applications are manifold, with customers having ordered these lenses being active in fields such as border surveillance, security, UAVs, personal vision, law enforcement, and many more. Our lenses come in two versions, one with a coating featuring over 94% transmission, or another with a ruggedized outer coating to withstand abrasion and water intrusion.
