10 Jun 2014 Stack Array Mirrors for Astronomy
SAM Deformable Mirrors are mainly used in telescopes to correct the wavefront, which is distorted when passing through atmosphere or any turbulent medium.
Featuring high optical quality, SAM deformable mirrors are suitable for high order correction at high speed with a large inter-actuator stroke, leading to unmatched correction performances.
Architecture
Pupil diameter: up to 500 mm diameter (with the same technology)
Standard actuator pitch: 3.5 mm, 5mm, 7mm, 10 mm
Customized actuator pitch on demand
Correction features
Stroke: from > 10 µm PV (for 3.5 mm pitch) to > 20 µm PV (for ≥ 5 mm pitch) wavefront
Mechanical coupling: between 25 % and 30 % according to the need
Inter-actuator stroke: between 30 % and 40 % of the PV stroke
Temporal features
Actuator resonance frequency: between 10 kHz (for ≥ 5 mm pitch) to 20 kHz (for 3.5 mm pitch)
Hysteresis: < 6% (for full stroke)
Optical features
Optical quality: 20 nm rms wavefront error once the mirror is flattened
Optical surface shape: flat, concave or convex (aspherical shape is also possible)
Electrical interface
Control voltage: +/- 400 V
Electronic driver (DMDE) can be delivered for mirrors with thousand of actuators
Several DMDEs can be chained for larger number of actuators
Environment specifications
Operating temperature: 0° C to 40° C
Storage temperature: -50° C to 50° C
Operating altitude: up to 4300 m (600 hPa)
No thermal dissipation
