24 Apr 2014 The finesse pure CEP, launched by Laser Quantum in 2013, reduces the complexity and cost associated with the experimental set up of phase controlled mode locked lasers, but recent work has shown an improvement in integrated phase noise achievable from this simplified setup
In 2013, Laser Quantum launched the finesse pure CEP. This 532nm pump laser has industry leading noise levels, a high power to size ratio and 5 year warranty periods, but its innovative technology lies in the ability to directly modulate its output power. When used in CEO/CEP applications, this capability enables the laser to stabilise the carrier envelope of a Ti:Sapphire femtosecond laser without the need for an AOM, hence reducing complexity and cost of experimental setup.
It was demonstrated by the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics that replacing the AOM with a finesse pure CEP is a simple procedure of unplugging a cable from the AOM and feeding it into the pump laser.
The finesse pure CEP allows a power output modulation depth of up to 2%, with a modulation bandwidth of approximately 700kHz before the phase response reached 90°. Recent work by Venteon GmbH, Germany has shown this results in a significant reduction of integrated phase noise compared to the AOM method, particularly above 10kHz.
