06 Mar 2014 March 5th 2014, Fibercore, the UK based global market leader in the design and manufacture of specialty optical fiber today announces two new fibers in its Telecoms PM Fiber range for OFC 2014.
Fibercore’s Telecoms PM Fiber range has been extended further to include up-rated variants of HB980T(6.6/125) and HB1250T(9/125). These new designs maximise the fundamental benefit of the Bow-Tie structure to deliver a 40% increase in birefringence when compared with more conventional PM fibers. This increase in birefringence translates directly into a shorter beat-length (Lp) that enables polarisation extinction ratios (PERs) and performance over temperature, shock and vibration that is in a class of its own. Typical applications include PM pigtails on pump lasers for EDFA’s, Raman Amplifiers and Lyot depolarisers, where the increased birefringence both enhances performance and reduces component costs by enabling a shorter length of fiber to be used. At 1310nm wavelengths, applications expand further to encompass fiber lasers, current sensors and biomedical technologies such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).
“Fibercore’s new telecoms fibers, HB980T(6.6/125) and HB1250T(9/125), benefit from the Bow-Tie structure’s fundamental and inherent ability to create more birefringence than any other fiber design. This allows extremely short beat lengths to be achieved which ultimately results in outstanding PER performance and opens up design options that are not possible with traditional PANDA telecoms fibers.”
Said Fibercore Business Development Manager, Dr. Andy Gillooly.
