High powered red laser for better results

28 Nov 2013

An increase in laser power can greatly improve the performance of the application it is being used for and now Laser Quantum announces the availability of 1.5W of 660nm.

In many applications such as superresolution microscopy, PIV, cytometry or sample handling, the power available from the source laser can have a great effect on the efficiency, resolution or speed at which the whole process can operate.

For example, higher laser power in STED microscopy enables greater resolution. A primary excitation laser is used to illuminate the sample followed by a second beam that has been formed into a ring; this stimulates fluorescence depletion, leaving just the centre of the ring beam to fluoresce. Using this method, the resolution can be reduced well below that achievable by a single laser system, where the resolution is restricted by the diffraction limit of the laser beam. The diameter of the centre spot reduces as the secondary laser power is increased.

The power range available in green (532nm) lasers ranges from low mW to many Watts but many applications require the use of red light, and the power levels available here are more limited.

Laser Quantum has developed a high power laser at 660nm that now reaches 1.5W. Contained in a compact, hermetically sealed laser head, the opus 660, has a high beam quality (M2 <1.2) and power stability better than 1.0%. Supplied with a 2 year, unlimited hours warranty, the opus is a fit and forget laser that allows the user to concentrate on their results, rather than the laser that produces them.
