CEP – Consistent Effortless Performance

CEP – Simplified by Laser Quantum

Laser Quantum has launched a revolutionary new 532nm pump laser for Carrier Envelope Phase Stabilization, the finesse pure CEP. It has been well understood for some time now that low noise, particularly in the few Hz to few hundred kHz region, is a critical requirement of the pump source for a CEP oscillator. This noise translates through the system, disrupting the phase of the pulse, and so noise in pump sources has been dropping in response to demand from this market. What if the situation were reversed though? What if the pump source could actively stabilize the system?

The finesse pure CEP is the most compact pump source suited to the application, and has the longest diode lifetime. It is subjected to the most rigorous quality tests, including a 1,200 g-shock test, but critically, it features a DC feedback loop that can be driven directly from the CEP locking electronics, with direct modulation of the pump laser power taking the place of external modulation through an AOM. The advantages of this are threefold:

1. Broader compensation. The finesse pure CEP feedback loop has a bandwidth covering DC to 1MHz, correcting for noise at up to 700kHz, compared to a typical limit of 200kHz for AOMs.

2. Lower cost. Excluding the AOM from your system will save you several thousand dollars.

3. Lower complexity, leading to far greater stability. Perhaps the greatest advantage, disposing of the AOM allows you to directly pump your oscillator, reducing issues due to alignment, vibration, thermal lensing, temperature sensitivity…

The finesse is already acknowledged as having rock solid stability, and reducing the complexity of the system enhances this benefit. Your noise will be reduced, your system alignment will be improved, your feedback will be faster, more effective and more complete. We can’t promise to make your CEP oscillator child’s play to use, but at least we can give you a big step in the right direction.
