(Petaluma, Calif., Jan. 29, 2013): Raydiance, the world leader in industrial grade femtosecond laser manufacturing solutions, has released the R-Drill 200, a packaged, factory-ready micro hole drilling solution for precision manufacturers.

Femtosecond lasers machine any material without generating heat, which means material is removed to specification and no costly post processing steps are needed to compensate for heat related side effects. The latest R-Drill bundles the Raydiance R-200 femtosecond laser, multi-axis scanning, and software that enables the system to be configured to drill to exact geometries in a single step. It has been replacing legacy EDM and slower laser machining products in automotive, medical device and consumer electronics markets.

Traditional precision drilling systems such as mechanical punching, electronic discharge machining (EDM) and legacy laser machining damage the part while drilling—effects that must be addressed in post production processes such abrasive washing, deburring and honing. These steps add cost and also lead to variation from part to part, which is unacceptable when precision is paramount.
