Assembling and Processing Sapphire Fibres

25 Feb 2013

LASER COMPONENTS has been assembling optical fibres since 1995. Starting immediately, sapphire fibres can also be processed directly using a newly-developed polishing technique.

Compared to the polishing of glass fibres, the processing of sapphire fibres is much more involved. This is due to the crystalline structure of the material. In this process, the trick to obtaining optimised polished surfaces is not to fracture the crystals.

Sapphire fibres have excellent material properties and are particularly well suited for applications at 2.94µm. Due to their high melting point and chemical resistance, these fibres can be used under extreme environmental conditions. These fibres are commonly used in processing plants in which chemical reactions must be closely monitored.
Our new processing options make it possible for us to achieve fast delivery times, to offer custom solutions, and to assemble fibres with all common connector systems at attractive prices.
