Quantum Efficiency and Speed Converge

27 Sep 2012

Quantum Efficiency (QE) or how well a detector converts photons to electrons is a critical attribute to the performance of any spectrometer. Back-thinned CCD detectors offer some of the best QEs amongst the affordable detector options, but many of these do not have the timing characteristics suitable for high speed spectroscopy applications.

Avantes new AvaSpec-ULS2048XL combines the superior QE of a back-thinned CCD detector with the electronic control required for high speed applications such as LIBS and pulsed light source measurements.

The detector QE in the AvaSpec-ULS2048XL features an array of 2048 pixels with each pixel measuring 14x500 microns. The QE curve has excellent UV and NIR sensitivity and is available with a detector collection lens to enhance the overall sensitivity of the detector when it is used in conjunction with large core diameter fibers. The spectrometer is also available with our new removable slit (RS) option which allows end users to change out the slits and connectors on the spectrometers to adjust resolution and throughput. As with all AvaSpec instruments, the AvaSpec-ULS2048XL is also available in dual or multi-channel versions (up to 8 spectrometers), where simultaneous spectral scanning is possible.
