Simulated Space Environment Effects Testing

12 Aug 2009

Simulated Space Environment Effects Testing of coatings & thin films in an ultra-high vacuum chamber. Solar UV & vacuum UV sources, temperature controlled 12 sample tray & in-situ optical measurements

Simulated Space Environement Effects Testing: 1) Ultra-high vacuum system utilizes both ion and turbo pumps. Operational vacuum level is ~10-9 Torr and the sample exposure chamber is ion pumped. 2) Equipped with 1600 Watt SpectraPhysics ultraviolet (UV) and 150 Watt Hamamatsu Deuterium vacuum UV light sources. The UV source uses a water filter to minimize sample heating, upgradeable by adding both low energy Electron Flood Gun and Proton Sources. 3) Insitu measurement of total spectral hemispherical reflectance and solar alpha can be made by utilizing AZ's LPSR-300V insitu spectroreflectometer; (Wavelength range: 250-2800nm; Measurement time two minutes per sample); 4)12 1"x.75" samples (powder, thin films, coatings)can be exposed simultaneously; temperature controlled -30 to 100 C
