Fully-adjustable, multi-directional beam-sterring scanner

05 Jun 2009

NTT-AT provides high-speed solid state optical scanner with electro-optic KTN crystals. It achieves multi-directional scanning capabilities with no moving parts but just to apply voltage.

KTN scanners introduce a range of new capabilities and benefits previously unavailable, including: The KTN scanner has no moving parts becasue the deflection stems from electron redistribution induced by applying an external voltage. This makes it possible to achieve very fast operating speeds ranging from CE to 1 MHz. The size of the scanner module is only 2 x 3 x 6 cm in size which is 100 times smaller than conventional size, this will miniaturize various devices. It is easy to steer the beam with a simple funcition of applied voltage. The beam angle changes equivalent to the voltage. Moreover, a continuous change in the applied voltage causes a continuous change in the deflection angle.
