19 Feb 2009 Thin film polarizers based on glass substrates can be used with lasers that have the largest possible power density available. They are used at the Brewster angle and equipped on one side with a dielectric coating. The damage threshold (1064 nm, 10 ns pulse length) reaches into the GW/cm² range and is thus one of the highest available on the market.
New Manufacturing Technology
Said polarizers are manufactured using an IAD (ion assisted deposition) process. This ion assistance helps create compact and thermally stable layers. In addition, the coating process is monitored using a new broadband monitoring system, securing a high efficiency and reaching an accuracy previously not achievable.
