Jena, November 2007 – After more than two years of intensive research and development asphericon now offers production of customised aspherical cylinder optics. Thus asphericon provides its customers a technological and sophisticated alternative to rotational symmetric precision aspheres and strongly strengthens its position in the field of CNC fabricated aspherical components.
Aspherical cylinders can be realised in plano-convex, plano-concave, bi-convex or bi-aspherical forms. Specific lenses with a cylinder surface and both spherical and aspherical rear surfaces are available. The outer shapes can be circular, rectangular or square formed. Components in almost every variety of glass, fused silica as well as glass ceramics can be manufactured. All cylinders can be supplied with reflective or anti-reflective coatings available from UV to IR.
The production is based on advanced CNC-grinding and polishing machines combined with special developed operation methods. A proprietary 4-axis zonal polishing process can deterministically adapted to surface form error up to 1.0 µm. Afterwards a special correction polishing technique can reduce lokal form errors and result in form accuracies up to 0.3 µm. Depending on material used surface qualities better than 5/ 1x0.063 and roughnesses Rq < 0.002 µm (RMS) can be achieved. Latest tactile and interferometric metrology guarantee sophisticated and reliable fabrication on highest level.
