03 Jul 2007 Deposition Sciences, Inc. (DSI), manufacturers of highly durable thin film optical coatings, offers IsoSphere™ Antireflection (AR) Coated Ball Lenses in a variety of glass indexes and new, larger sizes. Featuring very low insertion loss, the IsoSphere ball lenses are available with antireflection coatings with transmission values of greater than 99.5 percent in indexes of up to nd 2.0 @ 550 nm. DSI now offers the highly durable, scratch-resistant AR coated ball lenses in sizes from 200 microns to 10.0 mm diameter.
Ideal for telecommunications and expanded beam connector applications, DSI’s affordable IsoSphere line of ball lens products are a mechanically-compact optical method for collimating the output of an optical fiber or laser diode. Versatile and practical, the IsoSphere AR coated ball lenses can be used in fiber to fiber, diode to fiber, and/or fiber to detector coupling tasks.
DSI’s proprietary IsoDyn low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) technology permits a high performance, uniform optical AR coating over the entire surface of the ball lens. This highly durable, uniform coating eliminates the need for orientation of the lens in the customer’s device, thus reducing labor-intensive assembly costs.
IsoSphere AR-coated ball lenses are extremely stable over temperature and humidity, meeting the severe abrasion, adhesion, humidity, and salt fog tests of Mil-C-675 standards. Resistant to most chemicals, DSI’s ball lenses are also durably suited for aircraft, oil field exploration and refining, marine, undersea and aerospace applications.
