13 Apr 2007 EKSPLA offers a new attractive lasing materials ytterbium doped potassium tungstates, namely Yb:KYW and Yb:KGW . A Yb:KGW crystal as a gain medium exhibits high slope efficiency with CW laser and diode pumping at around 980 nm, owing to the small quantum defect level (~5%), the high stimulated-emission cross-section (up to 2.8 x 10 -20 cm2) and suitable Stark-level structure. The large emission and absorption cross-sections associated with Yb:KGW and Yb:KYW materials has resulted in efficient operation of lasers both in continuous–wave and pulsed mode. Compared with Nd-doped media, broader emission bandwidths of Yb:KGW and Yb:KYW make them ideal candidates for the generation of ultrashort pulses by compact diode-pumped laser systems and directly diode pumped regenerative amplifiers.
Moreover, undoped KGW and KYW have attracted much interest as one of most suitable solid-state materials for stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) .
Available Yb3+ dopant level for KGW is up to 5 at. %, while it is not limited for KYW material. Finished elements of size up to 20x20x60 mm at b-cut orientation can be supplied.
Applications
Yb:KGW and Yb:KYW thin (100–150 µm) crystals are used as lasing materials to generate ultrashort (< 100 fs) high power (> 22 W) pulses. Standard pumping at 981 nm, output: 1023–1060 nm
Yb:KGW and Yb:KYW can be used as ultrashort pulses amplifiers
Yb:KGW and Yb:KYW are one of the best materials for high power thin disk lasers.
